Holding Hands

Everyone knows that West is a mama's boy. While it's annoying at times, I sure love the fact that he loves me so much. A couple weeks ago, we had a little experience that melted my heart and I wanted to share it...

It had been a long day for West. We had a doctor's appointment early in the morning. He still wasn't awake when it was time to leave, so I had to wake him up (I HATE doing that!). Immediately following the doctor's appointment we drove to Orem to spend a day at the park with all West's cousins and grandma. By time we left grandma's house, close to 3pm, West was EXHAUSTED!!! I figured he'd immediately fall asleep in the car. Instead he just screamed! He'd gotten into this habit of holding my hand while he was in his car seat. I love holding his little hand, but when I'm driving it's pretty dangerous. While he was screaming, he had his hand up, so I knew that's what he wanted. But since I couldn't do it, I thought he would just have to scream it out till he fell asleep. About five minutes into the drive his screaming had gotten a lot more intense. I got worried that the car seat latch was really hot and burning his leg, so I reached my hand back to feel it out. As soon as my hand reached back there, he grabbed it, stopped screaming, turned his head to the side and closed his eyes.  I gently pryed my finger from his hand and he opened his eyes and started screaming again. I immediately reached my hand back, he grabbed my finger and fell asleep. About a minute after he started holding my hand I could feel his grasp slowly loosen. I pulled my hand away; he was fast asleep.

All my baby wanted was for me to hold his hand, that's all it took to calm him down and allow him to fall asleep. I know holding my hand isn't going to fix all his problems for long, but for now, I'll enjoy how much power holding my hand has!

Last Utah Summer

Since Devon and I had a whopping three months off between school and work, we made a list of things we wanted to do before we left Utah. Here are the pictures from our summer adventures!

We started at home! We knew we needed to enjoy our last few months of having a backyard, so we set up West's pool and had some fun.

Neither of us, despite living so close, had ever been to the Kennecot Copper Mine

We couldn't leave Utah without going back, one more time, to where it all began....Y Mountain

Unfortunately, we got started a little too late, so it was WELL past bedtime on our way down. West threw a fit, the ENTIRE way down!!!

Ever since Devon went back to BYU I've wanted to go to a BYU Baseball game. The BYU Alumni Association was throwing a tailgating party before their last home game for all graduates and their families, so we figured it was the perfect time to go.

However, the weather didn't stay good for long. I think we only made it through half the game, but still had a great time!

For our three year anniversary, we took a family trip ALL the way to Salt Lake City. We spent the day at City Creek, Temple Square and The Garden.

We went to St. George to visit friends. We played with the dogs, went to our favorite restaurants, swam in our favorite swimming hole, went on a hike and played lots of games!

Then, the thing I was most excited to go do... We went to Golden Spike National Historic Site. It's amazing the history at that place. It is literally in the middle of nowhere, but SO worth the drive.

Of course, we couldn't leave until we spent plenty of time with family. Grandma Black wanted to take West and all the grandkids to the park, one last time.

And finally, we went to Seven Peaks. This wasn't on our list, but some family was going so we decided to tag along. It really was great. Devon and I had passes there a few summer ago and had a BLAST, so it was fun to take West. He LOVED it!!! We certainly learned that he was no fear of water, even when he was under for a few seconds.

If you ask Devon, he'll say that we were pretty lazy and unproductive this summer, but from the length of this post, it doesn't appear that there was much time to be lazy ;)
