My Husband

Oh, I love my husband! I especially love him when he does stupid things. Unfortunately, they don’t happen too often. Since I met him I really only have two stories that I can tease him about. The first was when he got into a rental car, saw that there was an instrument on the dashboard that said 232 mi to E and he couldn’t figure out what was 232 miles to the east. The second was when he filled the dishwasher with dish soap and bubbled the kitchen. But my luck as turned, because in the past few weeks he’s done three stupid things!

The On-Ramp
Late one night we were on our way home from a Texas Ranger baseball game. Devon got a little lost and decided to make a last minute decision to get on the freeway. He thought there was just a couple white lines between us and the on-ramp when in reality there was a concrete island. By time he noticed the island, he was already committed, so we drove up and over it. My car did not seem to like our little adventure, but luckily there was no damage. My mom, who was in the backseat with my boys, let loose a naughty word that is not suitable for publication on this family friendly blog.

The Train
A couple Fridays ago Devon had a light day at work, so he was planning on leaving a little early. At 3:30pm he texted me and told me he was on the train coming home. At 4:10pm he called me and informed me he had done something stupid. I simply thought he had waited for the wrong train and would just be delayed a few minutes. But in reality he was calling to ask if I could pick him up at the train station. You see, since he was planning on leaving work a little early and would miss rush hour, he had decided to drive to work that morning. That afternoon he walked to the train station, sat on the train for 40 minutes and got off the train without once realizing that his car was parked at a lot in Downtown Dallas.

The Parking Lot
*This is my favorite stupid thing. I get the giggles every time I think about it!
We decided to check out the new Perot Museum in Downtown Dallas. There is a main parking lot for the museum, but it was full by time we arrived. Devon drove around the corner and pulled up behind a row of parked car (he was stopped was in front of a red curb, so we could not park there). But we sat for awhile; I was thinking that Devon was just planning his parking strategy. But as the time ticked by and Devon hadn’t so much as put the car in park, it dawned on me that he wasn’t planning his strategy, he was waiting for all the cars in front of him to go. He had no idea all the cars were parked, he thought they were waiting at a light. I told him, through my tears of laughter, that the cars were parked, but looking back I should have waited to see how long it took him to figure it out ;)

I LOVE these moments and I hope there are more of them!!

Terrible Twos

I think it's safe to say the terrible two are well underway in the Black household!

Our brand new futon

Picture of the Boys

I was trying to get a good picture of the boys in their Fourth of July outfits. As soon as I set them on the couch together I got this picture....

I then asked West to hug Landon and got this picture...

Finally I got the one I originally wanted...

I just love this sequence of pictures!

Landon at Six Months

I seriously love this kid! He is just the happiest, most content, cute, cuddly little baby!  This has been a pretty busy month for him. He's finally made it up to the 17th percentile for weight, bye-bye 2nd percentile!!

He learned to roll over, but he hates it. He can't stand being on his tummy (this picture is a fluke). He's only on his tummy long enough to roll back over. I'm not sure how he's going to learn to crawl, since he hates it so much. Maybe he'll go straight to walking...
He's started solid foods and LOVES it (despite what his face looks like!) The first week or so of starting solids, I could not get him to open his mouth for the life of me. All the tricks that worked on Weston, Landon was not falling for, then one day it clicked and he became a pro. His favorite food so far is oatmeal mush, it's gross, but he loves it. He won't even wait for the spoon to come to him, he lunges forward to meet the spoon. He's liked all the veggies he's tried; peas, cauliflower, lima beans and carrots. The only fruit he's tried are bananas, but he doesn't seem to like them. Recently, he's taken to helping me with the spoon, which makes for messy clean ups.

He's started to sit up, though he doesn't have much interest in it, throwing himself back as soon as he's up.

A few more pics...

Updates

Weston

This kid is growing right up. One minute he's just the absolute funnest kid and the next he's driving me crazy! I guess that's the terrible twos. His language is FINALLY coming along! Everyday he's picking up a new word or two. Just the other day we were in Walmart picking out some pajamas and he walked right up to a pair and said, unprompted, 'Elmo.' I had no idea he even knew who Elmo was!

He's still in love obsessed with balls! I was cleaning up the backyard the other day and I counted 15 balls out there, 15!
Even the rain won't keep him from playing ball!

He's always been good at kicking but he's getting quite the arm! We were cleaning up Legos that he had thrown all over the living room, when he pointed to the light in the dining room. I couldn't figure out why, till I saw this...
I still can't believe he got it all the way up there. On the same note, our biggest battle with him is throwing food. It's almost like he can't stand not to.We've praised him when he didn't, punished him when he did, bribed him before he did anything and nothing works, we can't get him to stop throwing food.

West also love the water, which is good because it's almost summer and we're in Dallas ;)

He's such a good big brother (most of the time)!

Landon

I seriously love this kid! We nicknamed him crabby because this kid had a temper! But all the sudden, at about two months, he became the sweetest, most laid back baby, ever!
This is seriously how he wakes up every morning!

He LOVES people and attention! I don't ever hold him at church because someone always comes and take him. All you have to do is talk to him and he's all smiles. We were at the doctor's office the other day and I was trying to talk to the doctor while holding Landon, but the doctor just kept looking and talking to Landon because he was just so happy and responsive. The doctor said he doesn't often see four month old's that are this friendly.

He's a tall skinny guy. 85th percentile for height and 2nd for weight. We've been working on the weight and he's gaining, so hopefully the weight will be up a few percentiles by next well check.

He's also a big fan of the water. I guess I know what we'll be doing a lot of this summer!

He also loves his big brother and is starting to laugh at all the naughty things he does!

He's found his feet and he loves them. We often hear him grunting in his carseat because he's trying to reach down to grab his feet.

Four Years!

Today Devon and I are celebrating our four year wedding anniversary. We hired a babysitter and planned to go out for fondue, but Landon is sick :( So instead, it looks like an early bedtime for the boys and Chinese takeout for us. Our life certainly isn't perfect but it is the life I've always dreamed of having!

It's Been That Kind of Week!

In the past two days:
*I've been told that the home we are under contract to purchase was in such horrible condition that our insurance company could not cover it. After a minor meltdown, it was discovered that the inspector was sent to the wrong house.
*Devon dropped his razor foils down the drain. I went to remove the u-trap to get them out but discovered it was rusted shut. When I was about to run to Walmart to buy a new razor (Devon has a big conference all week, making it a not so good day to rock the shaggy look),  Weston had his biggest meltdown ever, forcing me to put him down at 7pm and forgo the trip to Walmart.
*I had to wake both kids up at 10pm, load them in the car and drive them to the train station to pick up Devon because the car that he drove to work was locked in the parking garage overnight.
*I had to walk 1.5 miles to the train station, pushing a double stroller and carrying a carseat on my back.
*I set a laundry basket on the stove and while looking for an item if clothing, turned the stovetop on, nearly catching my whole kitchen on fire.
And to top it off...
*Our dryer is no longer working.

Whew! I'm tired ;)
